The Yemeni government called on local and regional investors today, Tuesday, to take advantage of the opportunities available in the pharmaceutical industry sector, stressing its commitment to providing a stimulating environment to enhance investment and achieve self-sufficiency.

This was stated by the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mohammed Al-Ashwal, and the Chairman of the General Investment Authority during the ministerial meeting on the localization of pharmaceutical industries in the interim capital, Aden.

According to the government's Saba news agency, the meeting, which included ministers and representatives of relevant authorities, discussed steps to implement the strategy to support local pharmaceutical industries.

Discussions focused on simplifying customs and tax exemption procedures, implementing a “single window” system to facilitate investment, extending the tax exemption period to ten years, and updating the 2010 Investment Law to keep pace with the needs of the sector.

The committee reviewed the status of existing factories and projects under construction, while discussing the challenges facing investors in this sector, and ways to enhance the competitiveness of local products and reduce production costs.

The attendees stressed the importance of moving forward in implementing the plan to localize pharmaceutical industries, while emphasizing the continuation of work between the Ministerial Committee and the Technical Committee to complete the tasks assigned to them and submit the final recommendations to the Council of Ministers for approval.
