Hamas announces the assassination of its leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in an Israeli raid in Tehran

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced this Wednesday morning the assassination of the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Hamas said in a statement that the movement's leader "died as a result of a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran."

In another statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said: “We are studying the dimensions of the incident of Haniyeh’s martyrdom in Tehran,” and we will announce the results of the investigation later.

The Iranian News Agency reported that Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were martyred after their residence in Tehran was targeted.

For its part, the Iranian Tasnim Agency reported that an investigation is underway into the assassination of the head of the Hamas political bureau, and the results will be announced soon.

Haniyeh was on a visit to Tehran to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
