Aden: Yemen Youth Net
The Electricity Corporation in Aden warned, on Saturday, that the system would go out of service within 24 hours, calling on the Governor of Hadhramaut to intervene and pump sufficient quantities of crude oil.
This came in an urgent appeal addressed by the Electricity Corporation to the Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Faraj Salmeen Al-Bahsani, the Governor of Hadhramaut Governorate, Mr. Mabkhout bin Madi, and the Head of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, Sheikh Amr bin Habrish.
The corporation called for immediate and urgent intervention to pump sufficient quantities of crude oil to the President's station, before its expected shutdown within the next 24 hours, which will lead to the capital, Aden, entering total darkness due to the complete shutdown of the entire electricity system.
The statement said, "The capital, Aden, after the shutdown of all diesel and fuel oil generating stations, is currently relying on the President's station, which operates at a partial capacity of 65 megawatts due to the limited fuel, in addition to the solar power station during the day, and with the continued failure to secure new supplies of crude oil, the station's shutdown is imminent."
He pointed out that this means the suspension of all vital facilities, including hospitals, water pumping stations, and service sectors, which will double the suffering of citizens in light of the difficult conditions they are living in.
He continued: "The General Electricity Corporation of Aden has been in constant communication with all concerned parties, and has sent repeated communications and appeals during the past weeks, but without any noticeable response."
The corporation confirmed in its statement that "with the approaching date of the President's Station's shutdown, the corporation finds itself facing a catastrophic reality that cannot be avoided except with direct and rapid intervention from the leadership of Hadhramaut Governorate, represented by Major General Faraj Al-Bahsani, Governor Bin Madi, and Sheikh Bin Habrish, to ensure the continued pumping of crude oil, and to prevent Aden from entering an unprecedented crisis.
She said, "We are putting this appeal before you, and we are counting on your national and humanitarian sense to take urgent action and take the necessary measures to secure fuel, in a way that ensures the continuity of electricity service and alleviates the suffering of the population."
She concluded by stressing that "electricity is not just a service, but a lifeline that links the security and stability of the capital, Aden, and the neighboring governorates, and the comfort of its citizens."
