A human rights official has revealed serious violations committed by the terrorist Houthi militia against the residents of the town of Hajour in Hajjah Governorate (northwest Yemen) during its military campaign against them seven years ago, the repercussions of which continue to this day.

"The story of the Hajour districts in Hajjah is one of the tragedies of the war in Yemen," said Ishraq Al-Maqtari, a member of the National Investigation Committee, in a statement on the X platform, affiliated with the editor of Yemen Youth Net, on the sixth anniversary of the tragedy.

She explained that the residents had been besieged by the Houthi militia and subjected to shelling, denial of exit, and the prevention of aid from reaching them for nearly three months since the beginning of 2019. The most severe and culminated of these attacks occurred on March 9 and 10, 2019, in the Hajur Center in Kushar District.

Human rights activist Al-Maqtari stated that the Houthi attack on the area resulted in the deaths of 117 people, the permanent disability of 67 others, the complete destruction of 20 homes, and the partial destruction of 95 others as a result of the bombing.

She added that the militia, which has perpetrated widespread abuses against civilians, has arrested 228 people, three of whom died under torture in prison. The militia later released most of them after they had served varying terms of imprisonment, ranging from years to years. Meanwhile, 27 remain detained and six remain missing.

She added that the militia had displaced 354 families, while 2,000 families had been forced to flee as a result of the war in the region and were scattered across various parts of Yemen.

The Houthi militia launched a military campaign against the Hajour district of Hajjah governorate in early 2019, committing brutal crimes and encountering significant resistance from the population. The militia then resorted to besieging the area and cutting off its supply lines before seizing control of the area on March 10 of the same year.
