On Wednesday, citizens set up a camp in the Azzan area of Mayfa’a District, Shabwa Governorate (southeast Yemen), in protest against the confiscation of their lands by the local authority, under the pretext of establishing an urban project.

A local source told "Yemeni Youth Net" that citizens from the Al-Wahidi and Naaman tribes held a protest and set up a sit-in camp on the lands they claim are their property at the planned site in the city of Azzan, Mayfa'a District.

The source explained that the protesters demanded that the concerned authorities stop the "Al-Kharmah" plan, which is intended to be implemented on lands bearing residential and agricultural documents.

He pointed out that the protesters accused the local authority in Shabwa of acting unilaterally and implementing the plan on the lands by force without any commitment to the legal procedures that guarantee their rights.

The protesters expressed their rejection of the attack on their lands, which will cause strife, demanding justice for the tampering with their property by influential people.

Weeks ago, the General Authority for Lands in Shabwa announced the launch of the “Al-Kharmah” plan in the city of Azzan, Mayfa’a District, based on directives issued by the Governor of Shabwa, Awad Ibn Al-Wazir.
