Shabwa Governorate Police (southeast of Yemen) announced the arrest of 383 African immigrants of Ethiopian and Somali nationalities, after they entered the governorate’s coasts illegally during the past two days.
According to the security media of the Ministry of Interior, Shabwa police seized, on Thursday, a boat carrying 203 illegal immigrants (130 Ethiopians and 73 Somalis) upon their illegal arrival to the coasts of Radhum District.
On Wednesday, Radhum police announced the arrest of 180 migrants (135 Ethiopians) and (45 Somalis) after they arrived on two smuggling boats to the coast of Kedah.
The police confirmed that it had moved in coordination with the naval brigade and the relevant organization to take the necessary measures regarding the migrants and ensure that the humanitarian and legal situation was dealt with in line with international laws.
Tens of thousands of African migrants enter Yemen every year via the Yemeni coast on a dangerous mission to move to Saudi Arabia to improve their living conditions, but thousands of them are stranded inside the country, which has been mired in war for 10 years.
