On Sunday, the city of Taiz witnessed a massive demonstration by teachers demanding the improvement of their conditions, and denouncing the deterioration of living conditions and the collapse of the national currency in light of the authorities’ inaction and failure to respond to their demands.
The demonstrators said in their statement that their suffering continues with the students for the third consecutive month, "without the authorities responding to our simplest humane demands, which are to settle our financial situation, as our salaries, with the decline in the value of the local currency, are no longer sufficient for our living needs, in light of the lack of basic government services such as electricity and water, and the turmoil and rise in food prices."
The statement added, "The suspension of studies and the deprivation of our children is the most difficult thing we suffer from, but the continuation of the educational process without teachers' rights is an abuse of education and its desired quality, a distortion of this message, and a prolongation of suffering without radical solutions."
He pointed out that the local authority, which has revenue capabilities and capacities, is going to unimportant banks, and it is handing over the necks of citizens to the mercy of commercial electricity companies, purchased water, lack of oversight, an integrated network of corruption, failure, and the absence of health care.
He explained that this local authority, as much as it is immersed in sharing taxes and percentages, forgets its duties and the possibility of pressuring the central authorities to defend the people of its governorate, which was a pioneer in education and has become a lesson in failure that disrupts its present and future.

The teachers sent a message to the Minister of Education, saying: How long will this negativity in dealing with the crises of your fellow teachers continue? Isn’t the loss of an entire semester enough for the Minister to raise the level of pressure, as if he were to threaten to resign after a short period of time if the demands are not met? Otherwise, what is the reason for the Ministry to remain if there are no teachers and students in the schools?
The statement referred to the position of the Prime Minister who made a clear statement in which he promised to respond and even exaggerated in his promise that we would receive our salaries as teachers before the salaries of officials and from him personally, stressing that if the promise was not fulfilled, it was a media consumption to polish the image at the expense of our suffering, and as much as it gained the approval of the people, the promise becomes a curse on its owner when it is not fulfilled.
The Presidential Leadership Council also addressed the President of the Republic, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, saying: “You are primarily responsible for this tragic situation, and the continuation of your salaries and allowances in hard currency is not fair. Great leaders share the suffering with their people, and history is unforgiving. We also do not hope that your term will be associated with this dangerous precedent in the longest complete strike in Yemeni history.”
