UN report: 531,000 Yemenis displaced due to ongoing conflict and climate disasters in 2024

A recent report issued by the United Nations Population Fund ( UNFPA ) revealed that more than 531,000 people were displaced in Yemen during the past year 2024 AD, due to the continuation and escalation of the conflict and natural disasters caused by the climate.
The fund said in a report issued on Monday that a total of 75,858 families, comprising 531,006 people, were forced to flee their original areas due to ongoing armed conflict and climate change-related disasters during the period between January and December 2024.
He added that 93% of the total number of people severely affected last year were displaced due to climate-related crises and disasters, with a number of 70,411 families (492,877 individuals), while the continuation and escalation of armed conflict was behind the displacement of about 7%, or 5,447 families consisting of (38,129 individuals).
The report explained that the rapid response mechanism led by it, in cooperation with its partners including the World Food Programme and UNICEF, "played a pivotal role in addressing the urgent humanitarian needs resulting from these crises; and providing immediate life-saving assistance to affected people."
He added that during the reporting period, the mechanism reached 463,204 individuals with emergency relief, representing 87% of those registered for assistance in 21 governorates, including the most vulnerable groups, 22% of whom were female-headed households, 21% elderly, and 10% people with disabilities.
The report indicated that the aid distributed to affected families varied between multi-purpose cash assistance, one-time general food aid, and emergency shelter.
