The Hadramout General Conference accused the UAE-backed Transitional Council of trying to usurp Hadramout’s decision and impose hegemony over it, noting that Hadramout has no representation in the Presidential Council.
A responsible source in the conference said, "The Southern Transitional Council, through its members in the Presidential Leadership Council, is trying to usurp Hadhramaut's decision, in continuation of the policy of exclusion and imposing hegemony over Hadhramaut and preventing it from managing itself and its wealth."
He added: "All political parties agree on this, and their fundamental disagreement is about who dominates Hadhramaut and its decision, as if Hadhramaut has become a spoil, and the future of its people is the monopoly of these parties."
The source continued, saying: “We warned in advance and early about the disruption of the existing partnership and that Hadhramaut has no representation in the Presidential Leadership Council, but rather representation for all political forces that view Hadhramaut with a narrow view, a people they rule, and a wealth they plunder.”
The source reiterated the conference's position on the necessity of correcting the partnership and proceeding with achieving self-rule for Hadhramaut.
The UAE-backed Transitional Council claims to represent the southern governorates in the negotiations for a political solution to end the conflict in Yemen, amid widespread rejection from political and societal components, especially in Hadhramaut Governorate, which sees the Hadhramaut issue as an independent issue.
The Transitional Council has the largest share in the Presidential Council, represented by its president, Aidarous al-Zubaidi, and his two deputies, Abdulrahman al-Mahrami and Faraj al-Bahsani, the latter of whom hails from Hadhramaut Governorate, which is witnessing rapid movements by the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance and the Hadhramaut General Conference to impose what is called “self-rule” and form military forces under the pretext of protecting the governorate and its wealth.
