Liverpool face a new challenge in their campaign to regain the English Premier League title when they visit Nottingham Forest on Tuesday in the 21st round of the competition.

Liverpool, who are at the top of the table with 46 points and still have a postponed match with Everton, are looking to kill more than one bird with one stone when they meet Nottingham, who are in third place with 40 points.

The teammates of the Egyptian international star Mohamed Salah hope to maintain the six-point difference that separates them from their closest pursuer, Arsenal, during the match, which will be held at the City Ground.

Liverpool are seeking revenge for their 1-0 defeat to Nottingham in the first leg of the tournament four months ago at Anfield, the home of the Reds. This was the first defeat suffered by coach Arne Slot's team in various local and continental tournaments this season, since the Dutch coach took over the team at the end of last season, succeeding German Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool also aspires to regain the winning streak that was absent from it in the last stage, after its 2-2 draw with its guest and traditional rival, Manchester United.

But Liverpool's mission will not be easy against Nottingham, who hopes to benefit from the support of the home team and the fans to continue its uprising in the tournament and achieve its seventh consecutive victory in the competition.

The team of Portuguese coach Nuno Santo has only known the language of victory in the tournament since its heavy 0-3 loss to host Manchester City on December 4th in the 14th round of the competition, where Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur were among its most prominent victims during that series.

After winning their last two matches in the competition against Leicester City and West Ham United, Manchester City are looking to continue their revival when they face hosts Brentford on Tuesday.

Manchester City, the title holder for the last four seasons, presented shocking results in the current season of the competition, after achieving 10 wins, 4 draws and 6 defeats in its journey in the tournament, to occupy sixth place with 34 points.

Brentford, who are in 11th place with 27 points, will not be an easy target for the team of Spanish coach Josep Guardiola, especially after their crushing 5-0 victory over host Southampton in the last stage, which ended their series of lackluster results after failing to achieve any victory in their previous four matches in the tournament.

Chelsea, who are in fourth place with 36 points, aim to put an end to the bad luck that has plagued them in the recent period, during their match against their guest Bournemouth on Tuesday in the opening matches of the stage.

Chelsea failed to achieve any victory in its last four matches in the tournament, which witnessed two draws and two losses, causing its ranking to drop in the list, and it is 10 points behind the leaders.

Chelsea's mission will be fraught with danger against Bournemouth, who are in seventh place with 33 points, and who have maintained their unbeaten record in their last eight matches in the tournament.

Manchester United, who are in 13th place with 23 points, have a good chance of achieving their first victory in the championship in a month, when they host Southampton (bottom of the standings) with only 6 points next Thursday, who are quickly moving towards returning to the first division (Championship) in light of their very modest results.

Since beating hosts and bitter rivals Manchester City 2-1 on December 15, the team of Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim has not tasted victory, after suffering three defeats and drawing one match in its last four matches in the competition.

The same stage will witness many other important matches, as West Ham will meet its guest Fulham tomorrow, Tuesday, while West Ham will play Fulham on the same day.

Everton will host Aston Villa on Wednesday, while Newcastle will play Wolverhampton and Leicester City will play Crystal Palace on the same day.

The competition will conclude next Thursday with Ipswich Town facing Brighton.
