Reuters: Al-Sharaa demanded that Russia hand over Assad and his close aides

SANA added that the Russian side confirmed its support for the positive changes currently taking place in Syria.

She added that the dialogue highlighted Russia's role in rebuilding trust with the Syrian people through concrete measures such as compensation, reconstruction and recovery.

The agency also reported that the two sides discussed transitional justice mechanisms aimed at ensuring accountability and achieving justice for the victims of the brutal war waged by the Assad regime.

She said that the Syrian administration affirmed its commitment to dealing with all stakeholders in a principled manner to build a future for Syria rooted in justice, dignity and sovereignty, stressing that restoring relations must address the mistakes of the past, respect the will of the Syrian people and serve their interests.

The visit of the Russian delegation, which included Bogdanov and Alexander Lavrentiev, the special representative of President Vladimir Putin, was the first of its kind since the overthrow of the Assad regime on December 8.

On that day, Assad fled to Russia, which had been one of his most prominent supporters, especially since its forces intervened in Syria in 2015 to support Bashar al-Assad's army.
