Yemen Youth - Follow-ups
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that Khartoum's welcome of Turkish mediation to end the dispute with the UAE stems from the fact that the latter is "a party to the aggression against Sudan," in response to a statement by the UAE Foreign Ministry on Turkish mediation and Abu Dhabi's vision to end the war in Sudan.
The Sudanese statement explained that "any effort to convince the UAE to stop harming Sudan and its people deserves encouragement and positive interaction, especially since Turkey is trusted and appreciated by Sudan," noting that what is required at the present time is "that the UAE stop supplying the militia (meaning the Rapid Support Forces) with weapons and mercenaries, and direct them to lay down their weapons, and then peace will be achieved," according to what was stated in the statement.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Saturday that it welcomed Turkey's diplomatic efforts to find a solution to the current crisis in Sudan, noting that this "represents a priority for the UAE," and affirmed its readiness to "cooperate and coordinate with Turkish efforts and all diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in Sudan and find a comprehensive solution to the crisis, reach an immediate ceasefire and address the humanitarian crisis."
The statement stressed "the UAE's work with the concerned parties, regional partners and the international community to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in an effort to stop the escalation and cease fire, and start the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue." The statement criticized the army's absence from the recent peace talks.
However, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry protested the content of the Emirati statement, and considered it "an attempt to escape the truth that the entire world has come to know, that the Emirates is directly responsible for all the blood that has been shed and is being shed in Sudan," indicating that "on the same day the Emirati statement was issued, the terrorist Rapid Support Militia continued to bombard the camps for displaced people in El Fasher and the only functioning hospital there, using long-range heavy artillery and strategic drones, both of which came from the Emirates."
The Sudanese statement rejected what it called "the hollow and false claims of the UAE Foreign Ministry to work for peace in Sudan," rejecting the accusation that the Sudanese army "ignored the suffering of the Sudanese people by not participating in the recent Geneva negotiations, which clearly showed the UAE's lack of seriousness in participating in them."
Since the first months of the war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces last year, relations between Sudan and the UAE have deteriorated due to Khartoum accusing Abu Dhabi of supporting the Rapid Support Forces, and the two countries expelling diplomats. The efforts of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, last July, to bring together the Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the President of the UAE, Mohammed bin Zayed, were not completed, despite their exchange of discussions on the phone.
