Minister of Transport, Abdul Salam Hamid, confirmed the Presidential Leadership Council and the government's determination to raise the efficiency and readiness of Yemeni ports in the liberated areas to receive all goods imported from abroad, and to deal with the repercussions of the terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthi militias on international shipping lines.
During an expanded meeting that included a number of officials from the Ministry of Transport, local authorities, and representatives of the security and administrative authorities in the port of Mukalla, the minister stressed the need to deliver these materials to all areas, including areas controlled by the coup militias, according to the government's Saba news agency.
According to the agency, the meeting discussed the regional developments that led to the bombing of the Hodeidah ports and ways to equip the liberated ports to meet the needs of international trade. The meeting also discussed the visions for implementing the single window system in coordination with customs, trade and relevant authorities, in addition to a proposal to amend ship tariff fees.
During his visit to the port of Mukalla, affiliated with the Yemeni Arabian Sea Ports Corporation in Hadhramaut Governorate, Minister Hamid was briefed on the movement of commercial and maritime activity and the handling of goods, in addition to the work of the various departments and offices in the port.
The meeting also discussed the progress of implementing other port projects affiliated with the Corporation, most notably Qena Port in Shabwa Governorate, Socotra Port, and Qishn Port in Al Mahrah Governorate, stressing the need to enhance joint work between all parties to improve workflow, update performance, and create an economic and commercial environment that serves the national economy during the current circumstances.
The Minister also reviewed the economic repercussions of the Houthi terrorist attacks on shipping lines and the resulting increase in insurance and shipping fees, calling for organizing work and enhancing the operational capabilities of ports to provide services with high efficiency.
