Statistics: 70 people died and were injured in traffic accidents in the liberated areas last week

Nine people died and 61 others were injured in traffic accidents in the liberated areas and governorates during the past week.

The Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior said that the liberated areas and governorates witnessed 97 traffic accidents during the past week, which resulted in the death of 9 people and the injury of 61 others, 33 of whom were seriously injured.

He added, quoting traffic police reports, that traffic accidents that caused material losses of more than 28 million and 180 thousand riyals were distributed between 61 vehicle collision accidents, 18 pedestrian run-over accidents, 9 collision accidents, 6 vehicle rollover accidents, and 3 vehicle fall accidents.

The traffic police attributed the causes of the accidents to violations of traffic rules and laws, most notably exceeding the specified speed, wrong and dangerous overtaking, being distracted from the road, neglecting maintenance and not checking the technical suitability of the vehicle and its readiness before driving, technical faults and malfunctions of vehicles, in addition to roads and their technical suitability, and negligence by pedestrians and road users.
