A remarkable military meeting of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance headed by Amr bin Habrish, Thursday, February 27, 2025
The Second Military Region in Hadhramaut, eastern Yemen, warned against pushing the province towards chaos, following a military meeting of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance in which it was announced that Hadhramaut would be an independent party with political and military wings in the upcoming negotiations.
The Second Military Command considered - in a statement - "that a military meeting held outside the scope of the official security and military institutions (...) is a dangerous step that could push the governorate towards chaos and security chaos," and noted that "the forces have surpassed the stage of multiple military units."
The head of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, Sheikh Amr bin Habrish, held a meeting on Thursday with what he called the military and security leaders of the Hadhramaut Protection Forces. They appeared wearing the official military uniforms of the Yemeni government forces, and on their shoulders were the ranks granted to them by the Ministries of Defense and Interior.
This is what the Second Military Command considered a statement warning all its members that "meetings held in military uniform outside the framework of the state are a violation of the duties of the official military and security institutions," adding that "any military movements outside the authority of the legitimate state are formations outside the law."
The region's leadership confirmed the commitment of its military forces to maintaining Hadhramaut's stability and sparing it from any internal conflicts, in line with the decisions of the governorate's security committee in its previous meetings.
The Second Military Council called for compliance with the state and respect for its security and military institutions, and not to be drawn into projects targeting the security and stability of the governorate.
She warned, "We will not hesitate to take the necessary legal measures against anyone who seeks to destabilize the governorate or affect the unity of its armed forces."
The highest alliance of Hadhramaut tribes
The Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance announced on Thursday that the governorate will be an independent party with political and military wings in the upcoming Yemeni negotiations, as part of the path of escalation and political maneuvering that the alliance has been practicing since July 2024, towards establishing its presence as a force calling for self-rule.
The alliance did not disclose the nature and essence of the negotiations, which it presents as the sole representative of the people of Hadhramaut, as it created its own forces called the "Hadhramaut Protection Forces" in order to ensure representation in the settlement negotiations, after the proliferation of forces and factions in the areas controlled by the legitimacy.
The head of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, Amr bin Habrish, pointed out that the forces' mission is to "protect Hadhramaut's sovereignty and wealth," noting that they will be "a solid dam to protect our country and the region, alongside our brothers in the armed forces and security (Yemeni legitimacy) and the elite (affiliated with the Transitional Council)."
He stated that Hadhramaut will be an independent party with military and political wings, in reference to the alliance’s rejection of any other component that presents itself as a representative of Hadhramaut, such as the Southern Transitional Council supported by the UAE or the Hadhramaut National Council supported by Saudi Arabia.
The alliance had previously announced its adoption of enabling Hadhramaut to achieve self-rule, and the American report - translated by "Yemeni Youth Net" - saw that Hadhramaut stands at a crossroads, with increasing demands for tribal self-rule, disputes over oil revenues, and increasing security risks that shape its future.
