Today, Tuesday, the National Authority for Prisoners and Abductees called on the international community to impose more pressure on the terrorist Houthi militia, to force it to release all detainees and abductees arbitrarily.
The Authority said in a statement that it "welcomes the decision issued by the US Treasury Department, which included the inclusion of the National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs affiliated with the Houthis and its head, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada, on the terrorism lists, due to their involvement in serious human rights violations."
The Commission added that "this inclusion is a positive step towards achieving justice for the victims of the systematic violations committed by the Houthi group against civilians and arbitrarily detained persons, including journalists, human rights activists, and employees of international organizations."
The statement referred to the documentation of numerous reports of violations committed by the National Committee for Prisoners' Affairs, including physical and psychological torture and deprivation of medical care, stressing that these are practices that contravene international humanitarian laws and basic principles of human rights.
The statement called on the international community to invest this decision by putting more pressure on the Houthi group to stop its violations and release all abductees and arbitrarily detained persons without conditions or restrictions.
He also stressed the importance of referring those responsible for these crimes to international justice to ensure that they do not escape punishment.
Yesterday, Monday, the US Treasury announced the imposition of sanctions on the Houthi militia’s Prisoners’ Committee and its head, Abdul Qader Al-Murtada, for their involvement in violations against prisoners held in prisons run by the Houthis in Yemen.
