Real Madrid achieves a valuable victory over Villarreal and temporarily regains the lead.

French star Kylian Mbappé led Real Madrid to a 2-1 victory over host Villarreal on Saturday in the 28th round of the Spanish Football League, temporarily moving them to the top of the table.

Villarreal took an early lead through Argentine Juan Foyth in the seventh minute, but Mbappé equalized in the 17th minute before adding a second goal with a beautiful shot in the 23rd minute of the first half.

Kylian Mbappé became the first player to score 20 goals in his first season with Real Madrid in La Liga since Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2003-2010 season (26 goals).

Real Madrid achieved their first La Liga victory at Villarreal since February 26, 2017.

Real Madrid now have 60 points, three points ahead of Barcelona, which faces Atletico Madrid tomorrow, Sunday.

On the other hand, Villarreal's tally remained at 44 points, in fifth place.
