The Ministry of Education Office in Al Mahrah Governorate announced today, Tuesday, the suspension of studies in all schools and educational facilities, both government and private, in the governorate on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, due to bad weather conditions.
According to the statement, this decision came based on the directives of the local authority leadership, with the aim of preserving the safety of students as part of the precautionary measures to confront the low pressure and climate changes expected in the coming hours.
The circular issued by the Education Office stressed informing school principals to take preventive measures, including inspecting schools, closing windows, turning off electrical systems, securing important documents, and placing computers and furniture in safe places.
The office called for preparing schools to be ready to receive those affected if necessary, while continuously monitoring developments in the weather.
In a related context, the Governor of Al Mahrah, Mohammed Ali Yasser, directed that comprehensive precautionary measures be taken to confront the expected air depression.
These directives included equipping hospitals and shelters, providing services, cleaning flood channels, evacuating low-lying areas, forming mobile medical teams, and raising the readiness of security and military agencies.
The directives also included preparing rescue equipment and preventing sailing to ensure the safety of fishermen.
In this regard, the local authority called on citizens to follow weather bulletins related to sea disturbances and high waves around the Socotra Archipelago and the Gulf of Aden, with warnings of storms and floods, and to take caution.
