The ministry added: "Belarus defends the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria within the internationally recognized borders," indicating that Rezinkov "announced his readiness to support the Syrian side in international organizations to protect these principles and to lift sanctions on Syria."

The ministry announced that Belarus will soon present 50 buses as a gift from the President and people of Belarus to the Syrian people, explaining that they will be manufactured, produced and delivered to Syria within the next three months.

Belarus, led by President Alexander Lukashenko, has been a supporter of the former Syrian regime in recent years, given its deep alliance with Russia, which in turn has supported the Assad regime. Belarus has criticized the anti-Syrian protests, viewing them as a Western plot to destabilize the region.

In addition to political support for the Assad regime, Belarus has sought to strengthen its economic relations with the regime by providing technical support and economic assistance in various fields such as industry and agriculture.

Political analyst Mohammed Jazr told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed that the Belarusian delegation’s visit may have been prompted by Moscow’s gesture, with the aim of making a positive gesture toward the Damascus government, which could pave the way for opening similar channels between Moscow and Damascus. Jazr did not rule out that the Belarusian minister may have carried certain messages from Moscow regarding its future relationship with the regime in Damascus.
