Taiz: Yemen Youth Net
The Yemeni Teachers Syndicate in Taiz Governorate called on Saturday for all teachers, educators, parents, students, unions and civil society organizations to participate in a mass march tomorrow morning, Sunday, January 26, 2025, to end the suspension of the strike and return to a comprehensive strike, in protest against the failure of the government and local authorities to respond to the teachers’ legitimate demands.
The union explained in a statement obtained by "Yemeni Youth Net" a copy of it, that its legal demands, which included improving the living conditions of teachers, did not receive a response despite its entry into a comprehensive strike since December 19, 2024, then suspending the strike on January 10, 2025 in response to the promises of the local authority led by Governor Nabil Shamsan and the Directors General of Education, Service and Finance.
The union confirmed that the last meeting it held with the governor of the province last Wednesday, January 22, 2025, was disappointing, noting the absence of any tangible solutions to improve the conditions of teachers and support the educational process.
The union announced in its statement that it would end the strike suspension and resume it starting tomorrow, holding the government and local authorities responsible for what would result from the suspension of the educational process, especially with regard to students in the final stage of high school.
She explained that the march called for by the union will start from Al-Awadhi roundabout at exactly nine o'clock in the morning.
The statement stressed the importance of unifying the ranks of teachers and preventing any attempts to politicize the demands or exploit them in a way that harms the interests of teachers and their legal path, calling for commitment to peacefulness and highlighting the civil spirit of Taiz.
The statement came in conjunction with the International Day of Education, as the union stressed that teachers’ rights are the cornerstone of protecting the educational process and ensuring its stability, and called on official bodies to respond to teachers’ demands, as in other governorates.
